Retno Sulistyorini(Enno) was born in Jakarta in 1981. After studying at the Indonesian Arts High School (Sekolah Menengah Karawitan Indonesia, SMKI) in 1999, Enno continue studying at the Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI), which is now known as the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), in Surakarta (Solo). While taking formal training in the ISI dance department, Enno also sought out more knowledge and experience from well known dance teachers and choreographers like Suprapto Suryodarmo, Mugiyono Kasido, and Eko Supriyanto. Her frequent observation of their work and performances inspired and encouraged Enno to shift over from dance to choreography as her major focus.

In 2000, during her fourth semester, Enno created her first choreographed work titled Pisau, and has been choreographing ever since. Within her creative process, Enno often collaborates with Rudi Sulistanto, who creates the musical accompaniment for her choreographed works. In 2010, Enno received the Empowering Women Artists grant from the Kelola Foundation in Jakarta for a research project to inform and support the production and presentation of art performances toward the empowerment of women. Besides producing her own choreography pieces, Enno has been participating other productions and performed in Indonesia as well as abroad. Enno has been part of Melati Suryodarmo’s dance projects since 2012.
