Melati Suryodarmo
Director
Melati Suryodarmo (b. 1969, Solo, Indonesia) graduated from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunscheweig, Germany. Her practice is informed by Butoh, dance and history, among others. Her work is the result of ongoing research in the movements of the body and its relationship to the self and the world. These are translated into photography, dance choreography, video and live performances. Suryodarmo has presented her work in locations all over the world, including Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland; MMCA, Gwacheon, South Korea; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan; Para Site, Hong Kong; QAGOMA, Australia; and Singapore Art Museum. Festivals include 5th Guangzhou Triennale (2015); Incheon Women Artists’ Biennale (2009); and Manifesta 7 (2008). She has presented her choreography pieces in various festival, among them at the TPAM, BankArt, Yokohama (2016) With Dance Festival,Sophien Saele, Berlin (2016); Europalia Festival at KVS Brussels (2017); De Singel, Anwerp; Frankfurt LAb, Frankfurt (2015) and Indonesia Dance Festival, Jakarta Theatre, (2016).  Since 2007, Suryodarmo has been organizing PALA and Undisclosed Territory, both annual performance art festivals, in Solo, Indonesia. In 2012, she founded “Studio Plesungan”, a art space for performance artists. In 2017, she served as Artistic Director for the 17th Jakarta Biennale.
Achri Hendratno
Head of Administration

Achri Hendratno has studied painting at the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta. He has started working at the Studio Plesungan since his student time. Achri has been working as project coordinator for most of the projects at Studio Plesungan since 2012. As an artist, he still continues creating paintings and also performance art.

Retno Sulistyorini(Enno) was born in Jakarta in 1981. After studying at the Indonesian Arts High School (Sekolah Menengah Karawitan Indonesia, SMKI) in 1999, Enno continue studying at the Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI), which is now known as the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), in Surakarta (Solo). While taking formal training in the ISI dance department, Enno also sought out more knowledge and experience from well known dance teachers and choreographers like Suprapto Suryodarmo, Mugiyono Kasido, and Eko Supriyanto. Her frequent observation of their work and performances inspired and encouraged Enno to shift over from dance to choreography as her major focus.

In 2000, during her fourth semester, Enno created her first choreographed work titled Pisau, and has been choreographing ever since. Within her creative process, Enno often collaborates with Rudi Sulistanto, who creates the musical accompaniment for her choreographed works. In 2010, Enno received the Empowering Women Artists grant from the Kelola Foundation in Jakarta for a research project to inform and support the production and presentation of art performances toward the empowerment of women. Besides producing her own choreography pieces, Enno has been participating other productions and performed in Indonesia as well as abroad. Enno has been part of Melati Suryodarmo’s dance projects since 2012.

Agus Margiyanto
Coordinator for Dance Empowerment

Agus Margiyanto (b. 1981) took formal training in dance at the Indonesia Art Institute (Institut Seni Indonesia, ISI) in Solo, where he studied dance and choreography. He stepped in the performing art by joining a theater collective called  Teater Ruang  in Solo, which was under the direction of Joko Bibit Santosa. In the period of 1997-2002, he took part as an actor in a number ofTeater Ruang’s productions. It was this approach that eventually carried Agus toward the world of dance.
He developed his career as a dancer under the direction of a number of re-known Indonesian choreographers, including Suprapto Suryodarmo, Dedi Luthan and some others(2002-2006).
In 2002, together with his dance colleagues  he founded the Independent Expression dance collective. Agus continued working as actor and dancers in various production of Pappatarahumara dance-theater (Japan); dance film “Opera Jawa” directed by Garin Nugroho (2006); an operatic performance directed by Chen Shi-Zheng at the English National Opera London  (2006-2007);  with the IBS Dance Theater company under choreographer Sen Hea Ha from South Korea (2008); with Lela Rubana Dance Company, Netherlands (2013-2015).  and since 2011 he has been working as main dancer at Melati Suryodarmo’s dance productions.
Agus has created a number of choreographic works, in- cluding ______ & _____ (2001), Satu (2001), Day-Lama (2003), Tubuh dalam Tubuh (2003), Hari ke-50 (2006), Ya di Sini… (2007), Asmara Jinurung Puja (2007), Pergola (2009) and Me-I (2009), which was a revision of Pergola.
