Studio Plesungan dengan senang hati menyambut Choy Ka Fai sebagai seniman residensi pada bulan Mei ini. Selama masa residensinya, Ka Fai mengadakan pertemuan dan sesi latihan perdana bersama para penari dari Indonesia di ruang dalam Studio Plesungan. Kegiatan ini menandai dimulainya proses produksi Kanan Kiri Kanan, sebuah karya pertunjukan yang direncanakan untuk dipentaskan di Utrecht pada tahun 2026.
Studio Plesungan is pleased to welcome Choy Ka Fai as an artist-in-residence this May. During his residency, Ka Fai held an initial meeting and rehearsal session with Indonesian dancers in the indoor space of Studio Plesungan. This gathering marks the beginning of the production process for Kanan Kiri Kanan, a performance work scheduled to premiere in Utrecht in 2026.
Choy Ka Fai adalah seniman asal Singapura yang berbasis di Berlin. Praktik seni multidisiplinernya berada di persimpangan antara tari, seni media, dan pertunjukan. Melalui ekspedisi riset, eksperimen pseudosaintifik, dan pertunjukan dokumenter, Ka Fai mengapropriasi teknologi dan narasi untuk membayangkan masa depan baru bagi tubuh manusia.
Proyek-proyek Ka Fai telah dipresentasikan di berbagai institusi besar di seluruh dunia, termasuk Sadler’s Wells (London), ImPulsTanz Festival (Wina), dan Kyoto Experiment (Jepang). Ia pernah menjadi seniman residensi di tanzhaus nrw di Düsseldorf (2017–2019) dan Künstlerhaus Bethanien di Berlin (2014–15). Ka Fai lulus dengan gelar M.A. dalam Design Interaction dari Royal College of Art, London, Inggris.
Choy Ka Fai is a Berlin-based Singaporean artist. His multidisciplinary art practice situates itself at the intersection of dance, media art and performance. Through research expeditions, pseudo-scientific experiments and documentary performances, Ka Fai appropriates technologies and narratives to imagine new futures of the human body.
Ka Fai’s projects have been presented in major institutions worldwide, including Sadler’s Wells (London), ImPulsTanz Festival (Vienna) and Kyoto Experiment (Japan). He was the resident artist at tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf (2017–2019) and Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin (2014-15). Ka Fai graduated with a M.A. in Design Interaction from the Royal College of Art, London, United Kingdom.

Bagaimana yang digital, virtual, immaterial, atau ekspresi non-manusia mendorong kita untuk memikirkan ulang dan memperluas pengertian tentang tubuh kita?
Telepresence In the Age of Extreme Self adalah sebuah kuliah dan lokakarya yang dibawakan oleh Choy Ka Fai, berangkat dari gagasan tentang budaya pasca-manusia yang diambil dari ranah fiksi ilmiah, seni kontemporer, dan filsafat. Gagasan ini dipaparkan melalui serangkaian proses penciptaannya yang menghadirkan pembayangan atas masa depan tentang kesatuan metafisik dalam praktik seni—yang berpeluang menciptakan dorongan untuk melampaui batas fisik diri kita. Workshop ini akan berbagi proses penciptaan berbagai proyek digital disertai demonstrasi langsung untuk para peserta. Kegiatan ini akan mengulas eksperimen sang seniman dalam teknologi motion capture, desain gim, dan spekulasi koreografi.
How does the digital, the virtual, the immaterial or non-human expressions push us to rethink and expand the notion of our body?
Telepresence in the age of extreme self is a lecture and workshop based on the idea of post-human culture from from the field of science fiction, contemporary art and philosophy. The plausible future of a meta-physical unity in artistic practices is here and maybe we are all have an itch to transcend beyond our physical self.
This workshop will shares on the creation of various digital project with demonstration for the participant. It will detail the artist experiment in motion capture, game design and choreographic speculations.
