LABORAT

(2014,K: Michel Balagué, Guillaume Cailleau –S: Hanna Slak –M: Werner Dafeldecker – 16 mm on HD –21 min –no dialogue Silver Bear, Berlinale 2014)

Interior, day. Oncological Research Center in Berlin, January 2011. A film team meets with researchers. Using analogue filming methods, the film team records experiments performed on mice. The mice are forced to undergo diverse measures. Whether the film deals with one or several tests, one or several mice is difficult to ascertain –the tests and the naked animals are too similar. Parallel to this, the film team documents their own activities, necessary to make the recordings.

Vorstellungen / Pre-Notions

1:35 min | 2018 | HD (16:9) | col | stereo | OV (nodialog)

Pre-Notions arose out of the exhibition project “Monuments for a patch of grass in Wolfsburg”. The film is a montage of individual, location-related videos. – For the creation of each video I had the following routine: I met up with fellow artists from the project at the location where they wanted to realise their work. We talked about how they envisioned their piece and what they were about to do. I then asked them to film me standing in front of their absent piece, performing the body postures they had assumed when talking about how they imagined their work.

Nichts bleibt (Nothing left)

3:50 min | 2019 | HD (16:9) | col | sound | OVdt

A philosophical film about the transience of everything and the traces left behind.
The time that changes our lives every second, enriches, encloses, shortens, fulfills. We see a changing mass that is fleeting, unique, ephemeral and beautiful at the same time, combined with a spoken poetic text about life. It is surreal.

Maleen Harlan (*1991 in Bielefeld) has been a member of Michael Brynntrup‘s film class since October 2019. She discovered her passion for film making early on. Following her graduation from school, she interned with a filmmaker in Los Angeles.
