Born and grew up in Taipei, Yeh Tzu-chi now lives in Tainan, Taiwan. She majored in western literature, had once been an editor of a literary magazine, a full time English lecturer in college, a general coordinator of Kaohsiung International Film Festival, and a freelance translator and writer. When preparing to write and direct a small-scaled theatrical piece My Body, My Song in 1999, she came across performance art by reading and got a brand new perspective of it. She started her own performance practice since 2002 when she joined a performance art workshop by Japanese performance artist Seiji Shimoda. Since then, she has practiced her art in the events or festivals of Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Philippine, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Finland, Israel, and United States. She founded ArTrend Performance Group in 2003, and has organized some local or international performance art events and festivals since then, among which 2004 Taiwan Asia Performance Art Meeting, and On The Way: 2009 ArTrend International Performance Art Meeting are two of the biggest.
