Dalam sesi workshop ini, Chun-Han akan menilik kembali latar belakang dan beberapa proses penciptaan karya tari yang pernah ia kerjakan sebelumnya. Ia juga akan membagikan beberapa praktik fisik dan teknik, mempertemukan berbagai praktik gerak dan tari, juga dengan praktik bela diri wushu. “Tarian tunggal itu tidak ada; penari menari bersama dengan lantai” ujar Steve Paxton, prakarsa praktik gerak contact improvisation, di dalam artikelnya “Drafting Interior Techniques”. Melihat dari sudut pandang ini, Chun-Han mengajak untuk bersama-sama menyusuri konsep kehadiran di panggung, hubungan antar penampil, cara memperhatikan, dan bergerak dengan pasangan yang tak terlihat.
Chen Chun-Han tumbuh di tengah komunitas teater dan tari. Ia tertarik untuk memperhatikan percakapan dan kemauan orang-orang untuk bercakap. Praktiknya saat ini sebagian besar membahas isu-isu identitas budaya dan rasa memiliki. Chen Chun-Han sangat terkesan dengan dinamika wacana, pengalaman, dan emosi: George Orwell memilih “He loves Big Brother”, sebuah kalimat cinta, untuk mengakhiri novel distopia “1984”.

Workshop with Chen Chun-Han
In this workshop session, Chun-Han will revisit the background and creative processes behind several of his past choreographic works. He will also share physical practices and techniques that intersect various movement and dance forms, including elements from the martial art of Wushu.
“There is no such thing as a solo dance; the dancer dances with the floor,” wrote Steve Paxton, the originator of Contact Improvisation, in his article Drafting Interior Techniques. From this perspective, Chun-Han invites participants to explore the concept of presence on stage, the relationship between performers, the art of attention, and moving with an invisible partner.
Chen Chun-Han was raised in a community of theatre and dance. He is drawn to observing how people engage in conversation and their willingness to communicate. His current practice largely explores themes of cultural identity and belonging. Chun-Han is deeply moved by the interplay of discourse, lived experience, and emotion—much like how George Orwell chose the phrase “He loves Big Brother”, a declaration of love, to close his dystopian novel 1984.
This workshop is free and open to the public, welcoming participants of all ages and backgrounds.
