HARI GHULUR
WHITE STONE
WHITE STONE
White Stone is a dance laboratory-based performance created through the influence of the impressive and emotional methods of the Gaga technique combined with the motion of Pencak Silat Pamor Madura.
This work was inspired by a general issue about the Madurese community, known as a society whose character was strong and firm. Hari Ghulur was interested in exploring the relationship between the society and the natural conditions and the geographical location of the land of Madura. The very arid geographical conditions with steep and dry rocky hills, land can only be planted with cassava, sweet potatoes, and corn which are the main crops and are consumed every day.
Nomadic culture of the Madurese people influencing their unique way of socializing, for example, since childhood (mainly boys), they learned martial arts called pencak silat as a basis for control and self-protection. This often gives the impression and is often mistaken as physical violence (carok).
But along with the times, this impression shifted into a positive thing and built the image of the Madurese community. Through their hard work and increasing levels of education, Madurese society developed into a more flexible society, broad and innovative discourse.
White Stone is present in the choreography which represents the discourse of the body of society and the natural structure of Madura. Physical strength combined with emotional moments bring us closer to a realistic humanity.
