KATSURA Kan, berasal dari Kyoto, merupakan Master Butoh dari kalangan generasi senior Butoh Jepang. Ia tampil bersama kelompok Butoh, “白虎社/Byakkosha” pada tahun 1979-1981, kemudian melakukan penelitian di Indonesia dan Thailand selama 20 tahun. Pada tahun 2001, dia terkenal sebagai seniman tunggal dan kolaboratif, serta koreografer. Kan telah bekerja dengan apa yang disebutnya sebagai “penari golongan kecil” di seluruh dunia, di lokasi terpencil di seluruh Afrika, Eropa, Rusia, Tiongkok, Asia Tenggara, benua Amerika Latin, dan Amerika Utara selama 40 tahun terakhir. Pada April 2018, Kan memulai Festival Butoh Internasional Kyoto untuk pertama kalinya, mempelopori cakrawala baru dalam dunia tari, yang kemudian dilanjutkan Festival Butoh Internasional Kyoto ke-2 (2019) dan Festival Butoh Internasional Kyoto ke-3 (2020). KATSURA Kan, a native of Kyoto, is a Master Butoh artist from among the ranks of Japan’s senior generation of Butoh. He performed with the seminal Butoh troupe, “白虎社/Byakkosha” 1979-1981 and then researching in Indonesia and Thailand for 20 years. In 2001. He is a celebrated solo and collaborative performer as well as a choreographer. Kan has worked with what he calls “minority dancers” all over the world, in remote locations throughout Africa, Europe, Russia, China, South East Asia, Latina America continent and North America for the past 40 years. 2018 April started 1st Kyoto International Butoh Festival for the sake of Pioneering new horizons for DANCE. 2019 May, 2nd Kyoto International Butoh Festival successfully.
