undisclosed territory #5

undisclosed territory #5
performance art event

Continuing our Bali-Java project from 2007 in which the “Undisclosed Territory” was a follow up activity of the 15th Performance Art Conference in Bali, 2007’s “Undisclosed Territory #2” was connected with the Performance Art Laboratory Project (PALA Project) 2008 in Bali. PALA 2009 was followed by “Undisclosed Territory#3”, which the has been succeeded for its 2 days event in Solo.
PALA Project 2010 and „undisclosed territories #4“ was focusing on the exchange between the Black Market International with numbers of performance artists from Asian countries. Different than the past three years, both projects took place at the Padepokan Lemah Putih Solo, Java, Indonesia.
After four successful years of the projects, we decide to continue with PALA Project 2011 and “Undisclosed Territory #5”.
PALA Project 2011 is purposed to provide space and time for the participating artists to share their artistic processes, to exchange experiences, practical and conceptual methods, and to enhance dialogues in a kind of organically structured laboratory process and in a concentrated place. It will take place at the village in the mountain area and Sukuh temple.
For our „Undisclosed Territory#5“, Padepokan Lemah Putih intends to provide time and space for work presentations, developing new understanding and opening dialogue between the artists and with the public within the context of performance art.
Both projects are two strong connected elements in which artists have more concentrated time and space to experience exchange and dialogue processes between artists as well as being present for public in one place.

“Undisclosed Territory” is an annual performance art event which was held for the first time in March 2007 at the Padepokan Lemah Putih Solo, Indonesia.
This event is promoted to introduce and present performance art works by Indonesian and International performance artists.
The first “Undisclosed Territory” 2007 included works of 13 international and 12 Indonesian performance artists. All the international artists were participant artists at the “15th Performance Art Conference” which was held in Bali and was organized by ASA European and Padepokan Lemah Putih Solo. During the “Undisclosed Territory” 2007, a lecture held by Boris Nieslony (Germany), artists talk and video screening of performance documentation and short and long duration performances were included in the program. The three days full time program from 24th – 26th of March 2007, has attracted hundreds of local public and visitors from other cities. A group of students from ISI Jogjakarta dance department has intensively joined and stayed for the whole 3 days.

“Undisclosed Territory # 2” was the second Bali – Java connected project, which was based on the curatorial concept by Boris Nieslony. 16 artists from worldwide and 11 artists from Indonesia were participating at our four days full time scheduled program. We also had four interesting lectures held by Jürgen Fritz (Black Market International), Tran Luong (Doing Something else – Performane Art in Vietnam), Christine Biehler (Sculpture and/as an Action) and SS. Atieq Listyowati (Performance art in Indonesia).
From 10th to 13th of April 2008, Undisclosed Territory#2 has attracted immense number of public who are not only from the local art scene, but visitors came from other towns and especially our neighborhood from the village around the area of Padepokan Lemah Putih.

“undisclosed territory # 3” was the third Bali – Java connected project, which was scheduled on the 3rd and 4th of April 2009. “undisclosed territory # 3” included artists presentations, video screening of participating artists previous works, artists talks and performances. 15 artists from Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Sweden and Indonesia were participating.

From April the 2nd to the 4th, 2010, “undisclosed territory#4” invited the Black Market International, one of the renowned performance art group, which has been existing since the last 25 years and thirteen artists from Asia included from Indonesia.

“undisclosed territory #5 “ was scheduled on April 29th, 30th and May 1st, 2011. Padepokan Lemah Putih invites twenty two artists included artists from the USA, France, Poland, Northern Ireland, Singapore, Thailand, China, Spain, Germany, Australia and Indonesia.
